Ideas for Preschoolers:

Word Recognition

One thing you can do to help your preschooler learn words as they start to read is to write out the words of objects around the house on sticky paper and place them on the corresponding objects.  So for example, if you have "d-o-o-r" written on a paper placed on the door, the child will see that every time they open the door and will learn to recognize that word as being "door".  When they start to read they won't have to sound the word out because they will already know it.
